Every parrot here is raised in our home with lots of love and nurturing guidance.  The individual needs of each and every baby are taken into consideration. Each baby is treated as “one of the family”.

All babies are abundantly weaned to an excellent diet that mainly consists of freshly sprouted grains, seeds and legumes, fresh vegetables and fruits, cooked grains and veggies, and some seed.  We do teach our babies to eat pellets but they do not make up the major portion of their diet.  At Wendy’s Parrots we believe in keeping their diet as close to nature as possible.

All babies are allowed to fully fledge prior to having a gradual wing trim done.  This means that our babies fly for a few weeks prior to being slowed down at all. No clipping is done until they are excellent fliers. Each final wing trim is based on the individual bird and the home the baby will be going into. However, no baby will leave here with a severe clip. Each baby must at a minimum be able to glide safely to the floor.

Babies raised in our home are extremely well socialized. We have kids and dogs and friends and they are handled frequently throughout the day. They learn to get along with other parrots of the same and different species and a variety of people. Things like vacuume cleaners, new toys, changing cages, etc. do not faze our babies.

Our babies stay in the nest box for at least 4 weeks unless there is a problem and usually for 6 weeks.  Contrary to what you may have read elsewhere this does not affect their pet potential but enhances it! No one can duplicate the love and care that the parent bird gives their baby 24 hours a day. You will not find any babies sweeter than those raised at Wendy’s Parrots.

We do not sell to pet shops or brokers, nor do we sell unweaned babies. I do, however, teach all babies to eat from a spoon in case there is any regression once they leave our house for your house.

Our environment is swabbed every quarter to help insure that there are no diseases present.  New birds are never brought in without going through quarantine and complete testing. I no longer routinely vaccinate against Polyoma due to the problems that have shown up recently with this vaccination. However, since it is so controversial I will vaccinate upon request.  All babies are DNA sexed between 5 and 7 weeks of age.

I’d love to talk birds with you and enjoy helping people fit the right companion parrot into their homes, even if it isn’t one of the species I breed. If you are long distance, I’ll call you right back.  We have babies all over the USA.  We will ship and if you aren't too far we have been known to drive and meet people half way. If you are lucky enough to live within driving distance we encourage you to visit your baby as often as possible prior to taking him/her home. If you live too far away, weekly pictures and updates will be emailed to you.

All babies leave here with their favorite toy, food samples, a packet of information, and the assurance we are always here to help you.  If you are close enough wing and toenail trims are free for as long as you own your bird. Regardless of where you live you can always call us or email us with any questions or concerns you have.  I am committed to helping you both before, and after your purchase.
